I ventured into DC the other week as I wanted to check out what textiles they had on display at the National Museum of African Art. I took photos of what they had to offer and as you will see there wasn’t much in the form of textiles at the museum. I have to admit I was very disappointed and underwhelmed by what I saw.
I have been meaning to post the photos for a while – sorry! Here they are now…better late than never.
Although I was disappointed by the lack of photos. There was an art piece that blew me away. It looked like a fabulous textile from a distance but when up close you could see it was made from bottle tops and metal. The way it reflected the light, the vivid colours and the flexibility within the material gave it such a presence I was amazed (I know my photo won’t do it justice!). The work is by El Anatsui, a Ghanaian artist who works in Nigeria.
